Choice. Colour. Quality. Intelligent and eco-conscious design. With the Bobby Berk Home Collection, you don’t have to compromise.
The collection is available exclusively at Urban Mode, a fixture on the Toronto modern design scene for over 30 years. I attended the launch party there before Christmas and I had a chance to chat with the fun and charming Bobby himself. It’s no wonder his new collection of sofas, chairs, and case goods is so full of personality.
With stores in New York, Atlanta, Miami, L.A., and now in Canada, 31 year old Bobby is making waves on the design scene across North America. His line takes inspiration from 60s and 70s mid-century style and adds a little Scandinavian touch. Manufactured in the US, Bobby aims for quality construction at an affordable price. He told us that every piece is worked on from start to finish by the same person. That kind of craftsmanship is hard to come by in a mass market, made-in-China world.
I have great respect for intelligent design, and this collection hits all the marks. And I love being given so many choices! His credenzas offer up a sweet surprise when you open them to see coloured shelving, and the doors can be reversed to change the colour – love that! All the furniture is customizable and scalable, and the fabric choices are fabulous.
Bobby talked about taking inspiration from his grandmother’s furnishings whose appeal crossed generations. He wants you to buy furniture your grandchildren will fight over. The pieces are bright and fun, with clean lines and quirky details. And the names are the best, taken from 70’s sitcoms. Remember Chrissy, Jack, Marsha, Greg, Tabitha, Archie, Ethel, and Jefferson? You’ll find all of these and more in the collection. I especially liked the Mork ottoman, and the Mindy cowhide cube seats. Because why shouldn’t you have fun with your home?
