These Books Are Art

Those of you who have read this blog for a while know that I love books. I line up each year for the best book sale in the city, the Trinity Book Sale. And I still have shelves of books I have been carting around with me since I first left home. As you can imagine, I was totally entranced when I came across these book sculptures by artist Justin Rowe.

Rowe is a paper sculptor from Cambridge, England who began working with these sculptures when he dressed some of the Cambridge University Press windows for Christmas. Here’s one he did from a series based on the Twelve Days of Christmas.

This is a lovely depiction of the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood.

And this one, called Still No Soul Appeared Upon Her Decks, is made from an old edition of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Olivia, my oldest, is an avid book lover who is mortified to think that anyone would destroy an old book. But I like to find interesting ways to work art into your home, and I think Justin Rowe does a beautiful job of turning these books into something extra special. Check out more of his work here.
