Canada Blooms: Outdoor Accents

Posted by Nads on March 22, 2012

“Decorating” your outdoor space can be a little like decorating any space, there’s always room for some finishing touches and extra accessories that can make a huge difference to the overall appearance and feel of the space.  I noticed a couple of ‘neat’ touches as I walked through the show and wanted to share them with you.  There’s a couple of real nuggets in there, so take a look at a couple of accents that I thought were really unique:

Unexpected objects integrated into your outdoor space – check out this uber cool retro fridge embedded into a hedge:

Stagger edging around your garden or a featured area as an unexpected architectural accent

Utilize “real” natural elements as part of your design

Partitions, separations, and accent walls in different textures, colors and materials lend an updated design feel to your space

Accent areas or nooks with a vertical hanging garden wall or framed ‘picture’ garden area

Another great way to add an accent is  to under-mount light or add a decorative grate to frame your patio

Try incorporating an interesting design element into your space by adding texture and dimension to your walls and partitions (notice here the wall is built with different depths to the horizontal slats)

Here a light feature is incorporated directly into the wall

Check out the accent feature incorporated by growing the moss in between the stones

The architecture of the outdoor area is made so interesting by the use of different materials, varying heights and accent lighting

Sculptural garden art always adds an interesting design layer
