One of our favorite things to do is to get in the car, pick a day trip destination and hit the road. We do this quite often and really seem to relax when we have no where to be and can just enjoy a time-out; chatting, listening to good music, soaking up the scenery and almost always stumbling upon a previously unknown hotspot. For Father’s Day this year, we decided to take the in-laws along on one of our road trips. They are usually up for anything, which makes them perfect partners for a day out. Our destination of choice this time? Niagara on the Lake. I haven’t been out that way in a really really long time and the promise of a perfect sunny Saturday made it seem like the perfect spot. One hour ish away, good company and a big lake so maybe I could get a swim in for Nikko. Perfect! And it was. We took the QEW, exited in St Catherine’s, and took the waterfront backroads until we reached Niagara On the Lake. What an incredible surprise. Gorgeous roads, tiny towns, marinas and fruit stands. The fields and fields of grapevines, wineries and nut groves made me feel like I was in Nappa. Niagara was gorgeous too. We spent the day exploring the quaint little shops and had a great patio lunch with some fabulous local wine. We followed with a long walk on the waterfront, a swim for Nikko and some coffee for the trip home. What an awesome day! Check out my pics, and make sure to add Niagara-on-the -Lake on your day trip must visit list. Next time, we’ll hit the wineries.
