20 years and going strong, the Festival of Smalls at Art Interiors is every art-lovers dream. On until December 24, this event showcases smaller sized original pieces of art from more than 50 Canadian artists, and offers all mediums, including photography, etchings, silkscreen, mixed media, sculpture, and collage.
A little nervous about starting your collection? Let owners Lisa Diamond and Shira Wood show you around. These friends and partners came together out of school to fill a void in the Canadian art scene, selling art that was affordable, accessible, and original. Their friendly and relaxed gallery is packed to the rafters with some of the best the Canadian art scene has to offer.
This annual event is a must for people who just want to get started, or for established collectors who want to add something new. The smalls are an amazing deal, and look great in a grouping. The staff will show you how to put pieces together for maximum impact. One tip: map out the layout of a grouping on the floor, so you can see what it will look like on the wall. Want to try putting together a wall vinyette? You’re encouraged to lay some pieces on the floor of the gallery and play! Have a look at this fab series they put together – such a diverse collection, and yet it looks interesting and cohesive.
Lisa and Shira believe you should just buy what you like, and you don’t have to be an expert to know how to do that. Priced from $55 to $250, there’s something here for every budget. Check it out – you might just find a perfect gift for yourself. Here are some of our favourites.
