IDS12 Highlights

With over 300 exhibitors, the Interior Design Show offered lots of inspiration for furniture and design ideas to incorporate into your space. Here are some of our favs from this years show.

Our first stop was Studio North, a showcase of over 60 Canadian and International independent designers. These sculptural candleholders from ShaKed are a fun way to add a “WOW” factor to your space! Custom pieces are available so you can express yourself your way.

Have a look at this fab table by Jeremy Kehoe Studio.

We fell in love with this chair by pab Furniture, a design that somehow blends classic, modern and ethnic flavours.

Randall S. Orr makes mixed media art using reclaimed wood slats, lime plaster, beeswax and resin. My sentimental side loved these pieces that say it all. Looking for something to express your feelings in time for Valentine’s Day?

Look at this ethereal work by Emma Nishimura presented by Open Studio. There is something contemplative and wistful about these light and airy pieces.

We found lots to excite us in the main exhibit area. One thing that struck us was how many options were available for customization. Have a look at this fabulous couch by Digital Print Specialties, who can create custom fabric, tile, wallcoverings, and glass panels from your digital images. We have some photography that would make gorgeous and personal upholstered pieces.

Here is a sample of their custom tiles, perfect for adding a unique and artistic flair to your space.

Look at this great shower we saw at the Fleurco booth. The glass is custom printed to match the artwork to the right. This could be used to create a stunning focal point in the right space.

We spied this amazing freestanding kitchen unit on the show floor, but can’t find the booth name – can any one help us out? This unit was actually used to showcase the design options available, but we think it’s a fabulous piece just as it is.

Modallion used a photo to show what can be done with custom carpet design. What a great idea for a whimsical look in a child’s space!

They also showed some stunning rugs woven from unraveled Indian saris – a brilliant way to add a hit of colour to your room!

Here is another line they were showing, colourful Prayer Rugs that use pop imagery in an updated take on tradition.

There was much more to see on the show floor. Come back for some furniture picks in our next post!

  1. Daniela, it was great chatting with you at the meetup on Saturday. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to talk some more at a future blogger event 🙂

Great IDS roundup – and as with every IDS post I read, I see things that I totally missed! There’s so much to take in, it’s just about impossible to absorb everything. If you don’t mind, I’d like to add links to your IDS posts to my IDS post.

Hi Kelly! Great meeting you too, hope you and your friends had a fun night! I have the same reaction reading other people’s IDS reviews – “how did i miss that??” Feel free to link. Thanks and take care!
