Ikea’s Ranarp – The New Blogger Lamp

Ikea's Ranarp Lamp
First there was the blogger plant:

It’s called a Fiddle Leaf Fig, and they were popping up in trendy decor blogs everywhere.

Now we have a blogger lamp:

Ikea’s Ranarp lamps hit all the right notes. In a mat white finish with brass coloured details and a cloth covered cord for a vintage touch, these lamps have decor buffs all over falling in love.

Lindsay over at Little House Blog has one. Nicky at Life I Design has one.

And now I have one. Two, actually.

The Ranarp saga for me started when I wanted their clamp lamp over my bedside table. But being one who always complicates things, I decided I wanted a larger shade on the clamp lamp. So bought 2 floor lamps and 2 clamp lamps and tried to exchange the shades between them, thinking I would use the floor lamps with smaller shades as nice photography lights. And I could always switch them back if I changed my mind.

ALMOST worked. But nope, the hardware was sized just a little differently, and so the shades stayed with their respective lamps. And I decided the clamp lamp as it was looked too small on the wall.

So next I moved on to table lamps, with the Ranarp task lamp being in the running. I looked at a few other lamps, too, like this one old one I had with a cut iron shade:

One word – scary. Threw it onto Craiglist, pronto.

I also found this cute one at HomeSense, since I have a very neutral bedroom and I thought a hit of colour might be nice:

Nope. Just did nothing for the space.

The Ranarp lamps won, hands-down.

The fabric in the room is linen, the wood is rough and raw looking, and the colours are neutral. My Ranarp task lamps add a fresh modern touch.

I’m looking for a Fiddle Leaf Fig next.

  1. It’s perfect! Love the industrial look with the rough wood nightstand!

Thanks Heather! That rough wood nightstand was an old espresso coloured one that I stripped, and that’s how it turned out. You know that really dark furniture that was trendy about 10 years ago? That’s what you get when you strip it. Not bad, right?

  2. Okay, major lamp envy now!!! I’ll have to make a trip into Ottawa to snag one for my self, I wanna be a trendy design blogger! *stomps foot* 😉 Really all this envy is turning me into a little brat! Seriously, I love it!

lol at the Blogger Plant and Lamp. It’s so true. But they are great! It looks great in your room!

    • Dani says:

Thanks Katie! It does look great – I guess there are good reasons bloggers are loving this lamp. Thanks for dropping in!

  4. I think I have a Ranarp lamp crush! Love it and all its vintagey-ness, and especially like it paired with the rough wood. Great choice Dani!! #MyThing!

Thanks Sheila! It looks even better in person. Nice vintage touch, but also looks a little modern. I can see using it in several places in my home. Thanks for dropping by!

Super sleek! It’s a gorgeous lamp; you have a great eye — seriously! Re: fig leaf, have you also noticed a lot of pineapples popping up? I feel like pineapples are the new birds/foxes/chevron, can’t seem to get away from them!

  6. Yep! I love this lamp too! It does look perfect in your space. Thumbs up! (Amanda from Natural Mommie has the clamp version.)

    • Dani says:

Thanks Christina! I love the clamp version – it can also attach to the wall. It was my first choice actually. The floor lamp is also very nice. The whole line rocks!

  7. The lamp looks great and perfect on your weathered wood bedside table!! I need a Fiddle Leaf Fig too, isn’t that cool that a houseplant is trendy??

    • Dani says:

Actually the Fiddle Leaf is an awesome looking plant – I guess there’s a good reason bloggers love it 😉

  8. Ooh I love how that lamp looks on your table. I think I “need” one of those to be a cool blogger too!

  9. Such a cool lamp! I love the contrast of the rustic with the modern – so eclectic and collected looking.
