I went vintage shopping again last week. This time it was in my sister’s basement. Nads house is always great for hunting. You can find anything you need. Random and obscure supplies for a last minute craft? Check. Wild clothes to make an interesting Halloween costume? Check. Cute vintage lamp for your daughter’s room? Double check.
I’m really worried that these shopping-at-Nads days are limited. She’s getting all organized these days, clearing space, cleaning and purging, etc etc. Good for her, bad for me. At least I managed to score this cute lamp for Isabel’s room before the motherload completely dried up. And she gave me sister-pricing, which in this case was $0.
I found an adorable shade recently at HomeSense that I really wanted to use. Can’t beat the price for something so original – only $24.99. It’s perfect for Isabel – a big burst of happy colour. I think it kinda works with the lamp, but not quite perfectly. It’s a bit of a whacky combination, but if you knew my daughter, you’d know that was perfect for her.
We’ve been re-doing her room. It’s all about colour, and fun, things she loves, and mixing things up. She’s making all the decisions, so it might get interesting. I’ll post some pictures as we go along.
Here is the before picture of my freebie.
This little lamp has some pretty details. It’s made of etched glass, with a painted design. It originally came from Goodwill. All this baby needed was a little Windex to take away a layer of dust, and she looked all freshened up.
Much less work than the pretty yellow curbside find that I recently restored. That’s two free lamps for me in the last few weeks. Sweet, non?
How about you? Any great vintage finds lately? Any curbside scores? Send pics, we’d love to share!
Ooooo. What a transformation! I love a good thrifty makeover.
Yes – cheap makeovers are the best kind!
This is adorable. I would love this combination in my home office.
It’s a really fun combination. I really like the pop of colour it adds to a room.
Wow! That is so cool! Love it!
It was fast and easy – the best kind of decorating project!
That is a great looking lamp!! Perfect for a little girls room! Great job!
Thanks so much. It suits my daughter perfectly and she loves it – that’s a win win, right?
Turned out great! I really love the flower idea. Makes me want to get crafty. 🙂
The design on the shade is made up of fabric flowers – I bet a crafty person could make a shade just like that!
Love the vintage feel of this – and especially how well it goes with that bedding sneak peek!
It worked out really well. And free, which is a big bonus. Love those kinds of finds!
Great find, and I love the shade! Can’t wait to see what you — or rather, Isabel — does with her room 🙂
Thanks April! I think Isabel will be doing more “whacky” decorating. It’s fun and it kinda works for her.
Free, my fav! Wish I had a Nads! Wait a minute, I’m a Nads! Wish I had a Dani to shop from me… 😉 The lamp looks awesome, adorable! Your photography is really kicking butt! Nice job!
Thanks Laurie! PS This Dani will shop from you anytime – I can imagine the amazing things I would find if I could poke around your place a little 😉
Look at you go! I’m loving all these lamps you’re making new =)
Very cute~! I love the shade – I thought maybe you handstitched all that on there. I would use that in my daughter’s room. We have vintage all over the house right now. I inherited my Mom’s stuff and my MIL’s stuff. Some of it I could easily make pretty again.
I’m really enjoying adding some vintage pieces to my home. So great that you can do that with pieces that actually have personal history! (And no hand stitching happens around here, ever! – that lampshade is 100% HomeSense!)
