Our house is filled with furniture that we have acquired over the years. Some are investment pieces that we hope will grow with us as we evolve in our current and future spaces, others are remnants from our condo renting days that we have not been able to replace, and still others are vintage finds and eclectic pieces that round out our décor and add a thread of our personal style. One piece that has grown to be invaluable is our Platform Bench by George Nelson, something that my husband brought with him. A little skeptical at first, I now consider this a signature piece because of its versatility and ability to add design flair to any room. Over the years, we’ve used it as a bench at the bottom of our bed, a coffee table, a console to hold our stereo and TV, and a feature piece in a long hallway, among other things. Having unique lines and a contemporary design, it integrates easily with so many looks and styles and can be featured in many different ways. Definitely a “wow” piece, it has proven to be worth the “designer” investment. I guess that’s what great design is all about.
