Looking for a little more calm and relaxation in your life? Need a stress-busting zone? Why not create an outdoor meditation area!

Studies have shown that connecting with nature can significantly reduce your stress and provide all kinds of health benefits. Now that the warm weather is finally here, I thought I would love to get outdoors and breathe in some of that gorgeous green peace and quiet. I have a nice corner of the patio that is perfect for a little meditative makeover, and a quick trip to my local HomeSense was all I needed to pull everything together.

This was a fast and easy makeover, and best of all – cheap! I started with a beautiful traditional Thai triangle pillow I had – another find from Nadia’s travels. A quick stroll through HomeSense’s garden decor aisles provided all the other decorative touches I needed. I first picked up a grey sisal rug to define the area. And then I saw four candle lanterns in the clearance section – only $5 each – SCORE!

It was love at first sight with this beautiful seated Buddha. It felt a little small for the area, but right nearby I saw a turquois ceramic lantern – the perfect base to add a little height. And it looks stunning when I light it up at night!

I found a bright yellow ceramic planter, popped a cork into the drainage hole, and voilà – instant water feature! I dropped in a floating candle and a few hosta leaves for a little zen touch. I’m feeling more relaxed already!

Two baskets of flowers and a few pieces of quartz later I was done – the fastest garden area makeover ever. I’ve taken an unused corner of patio space and turned it into a little green relaxation zone – just what every busy person needs sometimes.

The best part is after the sun goes down – I light up the candles and my quiet space glows. The real trick will be to make sure the kids don’t find me. I’ll be meditating on how to do that!

  1. Are guests allowed to meditate in our space? i’d like to come over! I promise I won’t tell your kids where you are.

  2. I am in desperate need of some calm and peace right now. 🙂

We need all the help we can get, right? Hopefully you can work in a little escape time for yourself. Or come escape to my backyard!

What a lovely space? I think even I could find some peace for my hectic mind there. Well done.

  4. Would love a space like this. Can you block out neighbours’ kids screaming in the background?

    • Dani says:

Lol. So true – we still have to deal with life’s realities, don’t we? Luckily I have pretty quiet neighbours. Blocking out my own kids is another story!

  5. That space looks beautiful but in my world the kids would tear it apart and make a fort with it. Thanks anyways and I love those candles!

  6. Tia says:

oooh! Love those night shots. I need to spent more time quieting my brain

So calm and serene, especially at night! I feel peaceful just looking at it!

  8. Absolutely stunning! I love this idea and I only wish I could create a quiet meditation area for myself. Alas, just another wish in my list when the kids get older 🙂 My 3.5 yr old and 16 mth old don’t even leave me to go to the bathroom alone lol

Those days fly by and you’ll have more time to yourself before you know it! Enjoy the early years, lots of time for meditation later!

  9. Heather says:

Gorgeous! I love everything about this space and I imagine it’s so lovely at night! Great work!

  10. Wow, so fortunate to have such a calming space! Lately the closest I get is hiding in the bathroom (which rarely works).

Haha, I guess moms have to grab whatever escape they can get 😉 My kids are a little older now – the quiet time comes quicker than you think!
