That’s what I loved saying to the New York cabbies after jumping into their iconic yellow cabs. Felt like a very New York thing to say.
During our recent Crazy Awesome Sister Road Trip, Nads found us a totally fab boutique hotel just a short walk from Times Square. And being Nads, she got it for about 2/3 off the regular price. Don’t ask me how – I think prices just drop when she’s around. She’s the one who found a $2500 Donna Karan pleated leather skirt marked down to $24.99. That set the best deal record in our family. So she’s definitely in charge of finding the hotel whenever we travel.
We wanted to stay close to Times Square since we had the girls with us, and it was a perfect location for a little late night wandering that felt fairly safe. The hotel was a block away – far enough so that the noise wasn’t a problem. The rooms were cozy (ie – tiny), but the lobby was fabulous. I’ve never seen a lobby so packed with guests at all hours. I think the free WIFI attracted a crowd, and the comfy furnishings ensured they stayed a while. Nads says she has seen this party vibe in the lobby of many smaller European hotels she’s stayed at, so it seems to be a new trend. So much more fun that the formal lobbies of some of the larger hotels!
I loved the styling in the lounging areas of the lobby, and I thought I would share some pics. So many great decorating ideas here!
This is the entrance to the ladies room – fab wallpaper, non?
The lobby was filled with furniture groupings that had the feel of a modern living room.
This was one of my favourites. Who wouldn’t want to lounge on this deep, tufted leather sectional, complete with cozy sheepskin pillows.
I think with all the book lovers in my family, this would be our dream coffee table.
Look at this beautiful fireplace wall, with dramatic stone and wood panels. A long bench and cozy lighting made it a great place to sit, too.
Isn’t this a fun floor lamp?
Here are two beautiful branch arrangements – might be perfect for my next DIY project!
This is a gorgeous black and white photo that lined the elevator.
And here’s a shot of the huge mirror lining the hallway that showed us the weather every morning.
The lobby was always hopping, every time we walked through, with a fun and funky vibe. Check it out next time you’re in the big apple!
