My kids are lucky enough to have the best aunt in the world. My sister Nads is always thinking of cute and creative ways to surprise the kids with little treats. The girls adored her pretty well from Day 1. They call her Z, short for Zia, the Italian word for Aunt. She is really any kids’ dream Zia, and I will have to encourage her to write up some posts to inspire all the other aunties out there.
We often benefit from her foodie passions, because she is always sourcing out new and delicious goodies to try. Today was my youngest’s birthday, and we met her at school to treat her to lunch. Nadia showed up with these gorgeous pastries from Pâtisserie La Cigogne on Danforth as a little surprise – a mini birthday cake “appetizer” before the real cake. Almost too lovely to eat (but not quite!), these tiny cakes were a delicious way to say happy birthday. But why wait for a birthday? Why not drop by this French bakery to pick up a surprise for someone you love? Or maybe check out your neighbourhood bakery for some local goodies. And don’t forget to get a treat for yourself while you’re there!
