I love to go to the beach. Now let me clarify – I love sparkling water on a sunny day, the sound of the waves, and long stretches of sand where I can meander, looking for beach glass and letting my dog run free (his favorite place is anywhere he can swim). What I don’t enjoy are the crowds of people and the busy, noisy beach scene that usually greets me. Finding a quiet beach is always a challenge, and so my husband and I have begun a little ritual where during off season months, when we have a free day, we pack up the car and take a day trip out to a beach. It’s rarely swimsuit weather, but I literally get a rush of peace and happiness walking along an often deserted stretch of sand and water, with my dog running circles around me. It seems like such a luxury to spend some alone time in what is usually a crowded place. Try it sometime – pick up some take out for an off season picnic (we favor grilled cheese sandwiches from our local diner) and take a mini road trip to the nearest beach. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what a great time you’ll have.
