I was invited to attend a food blogger event at Summer Fresh Foods to celebrate the launch of their Appies Appetizer Guide a couple of weeks back. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. The wonder sister duo started Summer Fresh in 1991 and have grown the business to an impressive Canadian powerhouse. The strong family bond and love of fresh food and new ideas is uber obvious in every aspect of their business. Hanging with them as they walk through their offices and plant it is very apparent that they love their business, they know their business, they love fresh food and they love their employees.
I am not a fan of processed foods.
In fact, I am the customer that makes my own hummus and tzatziki from scratch.
I am the customer that walks through the pre prepared aisles without a second glance and my nose up.
I frown upon foods that come in a plastic tub.
Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a big ass plant. There are hundreds of people making their food. What surprised me was the attention to “freshness”. There were rooms of people roasting peppers and hand chopping them. There were rooms that smelled of fresh vegetables and spices. This was as close to a hands on operation as I had ever seen.
And, I am very hard to impress.
My tour actually made me think twice about these products. The ingredients were fresh and pure, and the ingredient labels were comprised of fresh vegetables, whole ingredients and pure condiments. REAL stuff. After I walked through the operation and had the opportunity to taste some of their product, I have to say I really would use some of the these items everyday. They are fabulous!
Here is a peek at some of the items we were able to sample, as well as a look at my version of a fantastic appetizer made with Summer Fresh Thai Curry Sauce. Check out my own recipe here, and add some kind props so I can win their food blogger appetizer competition. (yes this is my shameless plug for some comments on my recipe submission, please visit the page and add some likes and FB comments) Honestly, this Thai Curry Roasted Sweet Potato Soup recipe is the bomb!
Check Summer Fresh stuff out next time you’re in the dip, or pre-prepared sauce aisle. Read the label, give them a try. I know I will be adding these products to my go-to line up.
