I occasionally drop by my local thrift store, Value Village, to check out the housewares section for interesting serving pieces to use as molds in my hand built pottery work. They often have a great selection of retro glassware, barware, and other tableware. Here is a gorgeous set of vintage compote bowls I found recently for only $1.50 each! That’s a fraction of what I would pay at a Queen West antique shop. The etched glass stem and the red and gold design give them a funky look. I can think of several fun ways I might use them – they would be perfect for the right dessert, and give a nice retro touch to a martini. How about sitting on my dresser to hold my jewelry, or maybe as packaging for some chocolate truffles next time I need a little hostess gift? Right now they’re holding candles on a chest in my dining room. Maybe in the next week or so I’ll fill them with cinnamon hearts for a nice Christmas display. That’s lots of mileage for my $7.50 investment!
