Winter Around the Corner

Posted by Nads on November 17, 2012

Yes it’s coming.  Every year, even a little reluctantly it kinda creeps up on me.  There’s all the obvious signs, turning the water off, packing up the outdoor furniture, starting the Christmas shopping (cringe) and putting all my summer clothes away.  Boots, that’s a big one, pulling out the boots and socks.  Well it’s that time and one of the big seasonal markers for me is watching them lay down the ice In Nathan Philips Square.  Today the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree takes place and this years round up of talent is pretty impressive.  Live performances from Dragonette, Suzy McNeil, Alyssa Reid and Sean Jones highlight the festivities, as well as fireworks and a dj dance party.  Grab your spiked hot chocolate and head down to Nathan Philips to watch the show and check out some of the pyrotechnics from Circus Orange.  It’s still pretty nice out and a super fun way to kick off the season.  45 years old, (The Calvacade of Lights that is), it’s still a great way to mark the beginning of winter.  Check it out tonight!
