This is a FABULOUS DIY project, just in time for Mother’s Day this week.
I first made these decoupage bangles with my nieces when they were little as a secret sleepover weekend crafty gift project for their mom. It was the perfect activity for little kids, they could rip the papers in a hap-hazard way and the decoupage could be applied in layers, covering up holes and errors. The more random the application of the papers, the better the bangles looked - perfect for clumsy little hands with big imaginations. They also came together quickly which suited their short attention spans, after 10 minutes they could triumphantly hold up a piece of finished jewellery for their mom. Perfect.
With bangles booming in popularity lately, I made these again. This time I used Japanese origami papers, which I am head over heels in love with. Sounds odd, right? But if you’ve ever opened a little package of random designs, you’ll understand how the gorgeous and intricate designs lend themselves to an Alice in Wonderland down the rabbit hole type of headiness when it comes to crafting. Yes…… as you can see I’m more than a little entranced. Getting back to the post…
This is really really easy and really really gorgeous. I picked up these wooden bangles at DeSerres on sale, but you can find them at any craft or beading store. Also, you can use this method on older or used bangles, Value Village is a goldmine for cheap unattractive pieces that are dying for an update. This literally can take you about 15 minutes to complete, so on your next craft night grab a couple of glasses of wine and go to town!
You’ll need:
1 package Japanese origami papers
1 jar Mod Podge decoupage medium
1 brush
1 wooden bangle
Gorgeous!!!
Decoupage is so cheap and easy!
Directions:
1. Take your selected papers and rip into random strips.
2. Apply strips to bangle in a random pattern while brushing on decoupage medium.
3. Smooth out any wrinkles or air pockets with your fingers. Apply another layer of medium if necessary.
4. Allow to dry according to package directions - 24 hrs.
5. Finish with a Mod-Podge or spray varnish.
6. Done! Get compliments! Have more wine!!

I love this idea - and that bird print! Where did you find these fantastic origami papers? These are gorgeous and look like you would have spent a LOT of money on them at Anthro.
wow - what a compliment - anything that looks like anthro is top snaps for me - you can find origami papers at any craft store - Michaels, DeSerres, even Wal-mart or a Chinatown store - they come in assorted packets and usually cost 5-8 bux tops - so cheap and really really beautiful
